When the first gold from the White Dam open pit mine in South Australia was poured in April 2010, it was expected that the life of the mine would expire in 2013, after producing at least 120,000 ounces of gold. It is now hoped that this forecast can be extended if current drill samples are positive for an extended lifetime. Although the mine is expected to close in mid 2013, it has already produced 130,000 ounces. Initial development loans have been repaid and ongoing reserves remain promising. The White Dam mine is situated 15 kilometres north of the Barrier Highway in South Australia less than 100 kilometres from Broken Hill, across the state border in New South Wales.
