Although Ramelius Resources acquired the Vivien gold project from Agnew Gold Mining Company, a subsidiary of South African miner, Gold Fields Limited, in November 2012, it is finally getting the project off the ground. The Vivien gold deposit is located 15 kilometres west of the gold mining town of Leinster in Western Australia. It is a high grade gold mining project close to an existing gold processing plant. Ramelius Resources have entered into a toll milling agreement with Gold Fields Limited for the ore mined at the Vivien mine.
Vivien Gold Project Development to be Fast Tracked
Ramelius Resources has finally obtained access to the Vivien mining tenements and began their first design drilling program in October 2013. It has now decided to fast track mining studies with the intention of commencing development of the site in mid 2014.
Ramelius Resources have set themselves a 17 hole drilling program that is planned to increase confidence in the resource while at the same time gathering geotechnical knowledge of the orebody. The taking of metallurgical samples and examining the mineralisation for any extensions of the high grade lode at different depths will also determine the project's early development potential.
The Vivien Gold Mineralisation is of a High Grade Vein Type
The Vivien gold orebody, is a high grade vein type deposit with an Indicated Resource of 579,000 tonnes grading at 8.3 grams of gold a tonne that equals 154,000 ounces of gold. It is located in the same area as Agnew gold mine.
Underground gold mining occurred on the Vivien gold mining leases between 1902 and 1911 when an average grade of 12.4 grams of gold a tonne was achieved. A further 410,000 tonnes was mined by means of open pit methodology between 1997 and 1998 that graded at 2.7 grams of gold a tonne that realised 35,600 ounces of gold.
Vivien Gold Deposit Came With a Package of Licences
Besides acquiring the underground Vivien gold resource, the purchase of the project from Gold Fields Limited included a package containing two already granted exploration licences, five granted mining leases and five prospecting licences.
Two Quartz Generations Characterise the Vivien Shear Zone
The Vivien gold project ore zones are characterised by quartz veining with what appears to be two different generations of such within the shear zone. An earlier quartz vein set is course grained and includes carbonate and quartz with trace amounts of sulphides and no gold mineralisation. Later veins are more laminated and associated with arsenopyrite and pyrrthotite. Gold mineralisation is usually narrow with the boundary between high and low grade and waste material clearly defined.
The latest results regarding the geotechnical and step-out exploration drilling taking place at the Vivien gold project have shown an aggregate of 2,236 metres has been drilled below the historical Vivien open pit. Drilling to date has increased the company's confidence of high grade gold mineralisation occurring below the pit. The down hole intersection of 6.5 metres at 30.4 grams of gold a tonne of ore has demonstrated the nature of the Vivien main lode. Further step-out drilling is continuing to be carried out to determine the true orientation and width of this latest zone of mineralisation.
