The Tomingley gold mining project, 60 kilometres north of Parkes in New South Wales, is being developed by Tomingley Gold Operations Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Alkane Resources Limited. It is a medium sized project that is to mine an identified resource of 800,000 ounces of gold. It is planned to produce between 50,000 and 60,000 ounces of gold a year based on a treatment plant throughput of one million tonnes of mineralised ore annually. Studies were undertaken in 2010 to assess the feasibility of mining three open pits at Tomingley, Caloma, Wyoming Three and Wyoming One which also includes a longer underground operation.
Tomingley Site Construction Began Immediately After Lease Being Awarded
Alkane Resources Limited moved quickly after being awarded the Tomingley mining lease in February 2013, with construction of the project getting underway almost immediately. Activities are currently focused on developing the gold deposits at Caloma Two, Wyoming Two and McLeans. The potential underground operation would mine under the historic Myalls United mine site.
Tomingley Gold Production Expected in February 2014
The Tomingley Gold Project is currently having the overburden material removed from the mineralised deposits and a contract is yet to be settled regarding the carrying out of the mining operation. As soon as this is completed ,along with the infrastructure work, mining will get underway. Once up and running the Tomingley Mine will employ around 120 personnel who are currently being recruited. Construction work at the Tomingley Gold Project is on schedule and within budget despite having to endure heavy rain in June 2013. It is still expected to begin production no later than February 2014.
Tomingley Mine Life Could be Extended
Although Alkane Resources Limited have announced the Tomingley Mine is expected to have a mine life of between 7.5 and 10 years by mining an average of around 55,000 ounces of gold a year, it is believed this estimate is a base forecast only. The company is expecting the mine to keep producing beyond that time frame, particularly if the underground mine goes ahead at the Wyoming One gold deposit. The potential of developing underground mining operations at the Caloma Two and Caloma gold deposits will also be decided on over the next couple of years.
Tomingley Mine Infrastructure Near Completion
The gold processing plant at the Tomingley Gold project is due to be completed by November 2013 and the 46 kilometre water pipeline that delivers water from Narromine to the Tomingley mine site was completed earlier in the year. Sixty workers are employed during the construction stage. Overburden clearing earthworks has been completed on the western side of the Newell Highway along with associated roads and drainage. Earthwork will begin on the eastern side of the highway as soon as the gold processing plant is completed along with a highway underpass. The ball mill is in the process of being assembled.
The Tomingley Gold Project is located 15 kilometres from Alkane Resources Peak Hill gold mine. The Tomingley exploration area extends a distance of 65 kilometres from just north of the town of Tomingley to eight kilometres north of Parkes. Four exploration licences cover the area that totals 290 square kilometres.
