The Perseverance gold and copper deposit in Central West New South Wales, near the mining town of Cobar, is located 900 metres south of the Peak ore body. Access to the mine is actually gained by a decline ramp from the Peak mine workings to the Perseverance Zone A deposit.

Mining at the Perseverance Mine Began in Mid-2002
Mining of the Perseverance deposit began in mid-2002 with the first
production stope being brought on line in late 2003. Since that time development has continued from the Zone A deposit to the Perseverance Zone D ore body. Zone D is a comparative high grade gold and copper deposit that contains most of the gold resource held by Peak Gold Mines in the area.

The Perseverance Mine is Part of the Peak Mining Cobar Operation
The Perseverance mine is part of the Peak Gold Mine operation located in Central New South Wales along the Hillston Road, south of the regional centre of Cobar. It is wholly owned by Canadian mining company New Gold. The peak mining operation contains five gold and copper deposits that are currently being mined by means of underground mining that provides feed to the one central copper and gold processing plant.

The Perseverance Deposit is Part of the Wider Cobar Gold Field

The mineralised ore bodies, Perseverance, Chesney, New Cobar, New Occidental and Peak currently being mined are all part of the wider Cobar Gold Field. A 10 kilometre stretch of historic copper and gold mines that extends from the Tharsis workings in the north to the Perseverance-Peak Gold Mine in the south. It exists immediately north of the town of Cobar. The highly mineralised belt that is situated on the eastern edge of the Cobar Basin has, in the past, produced over 200,000 tonnes of copper and three million ounces of gold since mining commenced in the area in 1870.

Peak Mining Gold Production Increasing
During the third quarter of 2013 the Peak gold mining operation, that includes the Perseverance Mine, produced 2.8 million pounds of copper and 23,926 ounces of gold, compared with 3.1 million pounds of copper and 23,886 ounces of gold for the same period in 2012. For the first nine months of 2013 the operation produced 9.9 million pounds of copper and 76,463 ounces of gold, compared with 10.8 million pounds of copper and 66,737 ounces of gold in the first nine months of 2012. The increase in gold production reflected the increase in ore being processed and its higher grade which was responsible for increased mill recovery.

Peak Mining is a Large Local Employer at Cobar

Peak Gold Mines is a contemporary medium sized copper and gold mining operation that began mining in the Cobar Gold Field in 1992. The gold ore and copper concentrate it produces is sold to Asian markets. The Peak gold mining operation employs around 300 direct employees and 40 contractors who mainly reside in the regional centre of Cobar. The mine is operated at full capacity for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Both maintenance and production staff work to a four day on and four days off continuous rotation shift roster. A formal hand-over takes place at every shift change to ensure all employees starting their shift are fully briefed with what had occurred during the previous shift. This briefing also includes a pre-start safety meeting as part of the company's world wide commitment to safety.
