The Old Pirate gold mine in the Northern Territory's Central Desert, 20 kilometres from the Northern Territory / Western Australia border, is in the process of commencing production under the ownership of ABM Resources.

Resource Mining to Operate the new Old Pirate Gold Mine in the Northern Territory

ABM Resources announced on January 30, 2015, that it had appointed Resource Mining Pty Ltd , a subsidiary company belonging to Titan Plant Hire , as the mining contractor to operate the Old Pirate open cut gold mine. Titan Plant Hire was founded in Kalgoorlie in the 1990's as a mining industry plant hire company.

Work to Start at the old Pirate Mine in Early 2015

ABM Resources and TITAN Plant Hire subsidiary Resource Mining Ltd is mobilising their equipment and workforce to have work commence on the project in February, 2015. An operational team employed by ABM Resources is already at the site of the Old Pirate gold mine, preparing to receive Resource Mining personnel when they arrive to start work on the project.

The Resource Mining, mine contract team, when they arrive, will first have to upgrade the access road to the mine site from the Tanami Road. It will then have to construct its own infrastructure requirements and clear the land where the mine is to be established. When this initial work is completed the mining contractor team of Resource Mining will be able get down to work undertaking the first of the open pit mining operations at the Old Pirate mine site and begin the building of an ore stockpile. This is expected to take place in late March or early April 2015.

Fear Wet Season Rains Could Delay Start on Work at the Old Pirate Gold Mine

The plan to get an early production start at the Old Pirate gold mine could, however, be delayed by wet season rains, that have the potential to close public access roads leading to the mine. In the meantime ABM Resources are in the process of opening a head office at Alice Springs, the lease has already been arranged and the office is due to open in March, 2015.

Old Pirate ore to be Processed at the Coyote Gold Processing Plant Across the WA Border

ABM Resources have entered into an agreement with Tanami Exploration that allows them to lease Tanami Exploration's, Coyote Gold Processing Plant, located 77 kilometres by road from the Old Pirate mine by NT Company Rusca Bros Services Pty Ltd , and over the state border in Western Australia. The leasing of the Coyote plant for the processing of Old Pirate ore will allow ABM Resources to avoid the extra cost involved in expanding the gravity plant at the Old Pirate mine site. The Coyote Processing Plant already has a 240,000 tonnes a year capacity which can be expanded if required and it is capable of returning a recovery rate of 99 percent compared to a gravity only recovery rate of 86 percent. It is also a better environmental option in that ABM Resources will not have to provide a tailings storage facility at the Old Pirate mine site.
