The New Acland open cut thermal coal mine has been in production since 2002 in the Darling Downs Region of Queensland. It is a major employer of local workers as it provides over 300 positions and work for 160 contractors, as well as contributing to 2,300 indirect jobs. The Mine also supports local suppliers and businesses by injecting over $110 million into the Darling Downs economy annually. It also spends more than $300 million in the greater Queensland community each year.

The New Acland Coal Mine is Owned by the New Hope Group
The New Acland Mine is owned and operated by the New Hope Group, a company that has played a major role in the Darling Downs Region of Queensland, both as a economic contributor and large employer for the past decade. The Mine also carries out an extensive rehabilitation program on its mining lease through a continuous process of returning mined out land to conservation and agricultural uses. It also benefits the region in the provision of much needed infrastructure, educational and environmental support along with giving ongoing support to community development initiatives.

The New Acland Stage Three Project will Extend the Life of the Mine

As a way of continuing the New Acland coal mines contribution to the general economy and local community into the future, the mine owner, New Hope Group, has announced a mine extension known as the New Acland Coal Mine Stage Three Project. A major part of this project is the relocation of the rail loading facility out of the town confines of Jondaryan, as well as maintaining the economic benefit and current job levels flowing into the Darling Downs community. The New Acland Mine has always actively recruited workers from the local population as of the 300 workers currently employed by the company over 80 percent are local residents. This is important in creating job opportunities such as work experience for local students as well as offering traineeships and apprenticeships. The extension project itself will employ 200 construction jobs and a further 100 direct employment opportunities.
