Atlas Iron, in a joint venture partnership with Altura mining, are proceeding with the construction and development of the Mt Webber iron ore project located 230 kilometres south south east of Port Hedland in Western Australia. The mining contract has been awarded to BGC Contracting who have the responsibility of developing the project as well as the mining, crushing and screening at the mine when it gets underway in April 2014. The mine has an expected life of 18 years.

Mt Webber Open cut Mine to be Developed in a Conventional Manner

The Mt Webber iron ore open cut operation is expected to initially produce around three million tonnes of DSO (direct shipping ore) iron ore annually containing an iron grade of 57.2 percent. It is intended to eventually increase this production rate to six million tonnes of ore. The iron ore deposit at Mt Webber is to be mined in the conventional open pit manner that involves drilling, blasting, excavation, loading and haulage. Once mined the ore is to be trucked to Utah Point at Port Hedland for exporting to the company's overseas customers. The development workforce at the Mt Webber mine is expected to peak at around 120 personnel.

Mt Webber Iron Ore to Contribute the Atlas North Pilbara Blend

Altura Mining Limited, which has a 30 percent interest in the joint venture agreement with Atlas which holds 70 percent, keeps its 100 percent ownership of its northern mining tenements. Other tenements are owned on the basis of Atlas 70 percent and Altura 30 percent. Atlas Iron Limited is to provide the mining expertise as it already operates iron ore mines at Pardoo, Mt Dove, Abydos and Wodgina. The Mt Webber mine will therefore be Atlas Iron Limited's fifth iron ore mine operating in the Pilbara and become part of Atlas's overall North Pilbara Blend.

Mt Webber Iron Ore Reserve Upgraded in 2012
In August 2012, the JORC complient iron ore reserve at Mt Webber was upgraded to 29,623 million tonnes grading at 57.3 percent iron. The ore reserve estimation was first compiled by Atlas Iron Limited before it was reviewed by Orelogy Group Pty Ltd, an independent Western Australian mine planning consulting firm.

Mt Webber Construction Contracts Awarded to BGC and Decmil
The contract to build the Mt Webber employee accommodation village has been awarded to Decmil Group. Mining contracting firms BGC and Decmil, who are both currently carrying out the construction work at the Mt Webber mine site, have expereince of completing similar contracts in the Western Australian Pilbara Region. Decmil Group Limited is a construction company that designs and develops buildings for the Australian resource sector.

Atlas Iron Limited is an independent Australian iron ore company that is involved in the mining and exporting of direct shipping ore (DSO). Iron ore that contains high amounts of magnetite or hematite, usually either around, or greater than, 60 percent. These ores are sometimes referred to as 'natural ores.' It is able to be fed directly into blast furnaces for the making of iron.

Altura Mining Limited is currently focused on moving into production while still seeking out new exploration opportunities that have the potential to add to its future growth.
