The Mount Rawdon open pit gold mine in the Maryborough Region of Queensland, 75 kilometres from Bundaberg, commenced production in 2001. It is fully owned by Evolution Mining, a company formed as a result of a merger between Catalpa Resources Limited and Conquest Mining Limited. Newcrest Mining enjoys a 32.96 percent shareholding in Evolution Mining that was formed in the latter half of 2011 as a mid-tier Australian gold producer.
Mount Rawdon Open pit Mining Uses Conventional Methods
The Mount Rawdon Mine consists of one open pit that uses the usual mining method of drilling, blasting, loading and hauling. All these various mining activities are carried out by individual contracting firms managed overall by Evolution Mining staff. The life of mine is estimated to expire in 2023 at current production levels.
Mount Rawdon has its own Gold Processing Facility on Site
The Mount Rawdon gold mine has its own gold processing facility that consists of primary and secondary crushing of the ore, a SAG and ball mill followed by a cyanide leaching process. The mill capacity is averaging around 3.5 million tonnes of gold bearing ore a year with a recover rate of around 90 percent.
Mt Perry is a Rich Gold Mining Area
The Mount Perry area in which the Mount Rawdon mine in located contains some of Queenslands richest gold mines. The Mount Rawdon Mine alone produces around 90,000 ounces of gold annually. Mount Perry is an historic town in its own right as it is situated in a picturesque valley that highlights its village status.
