The Little Eva Copper/Gold Project is located 90 kilometresnorth east of Mt Isa in Queensland. It is the first stage of Altona Mining Limited's larger Roseby Project that contains a resource of 1.27 million tonnes of copper and 0.38 million ounces of gold.
Mine waste is to be taken to an adjacent waste dump which will be an important part of the Little Eva mine storage facility. Mine waste will also be used in the construction of a bund for protection against flooding. The bund will be built around both the processing plant and the pit, it will be formed to divert water from Cabbage Tree Creek away from the mining operations. Ore from the mine will transported to the run-of-mine (ROM) pad in readiness to be directly fed into the crusher. In the first instance concentrate will be sent from the Little Eva mine, in containers, to a railway siding at Cloncurry, from there it will berailed to the port at Townsville for exporting to overseas customers.
Altona Mining Limited plans to lease most of the mine equipment as well as the supply of all explosives and fuel for the fleet that will be managed, maintained and operated by the mining contractor, when appointed.
The Little Eva mine will consist of a 30 metre dual lane haulage road within the pit at a gradient of 10 percent towards the pit's eastern wall. The pit is to be 240 metres deep, 600 metres wide and 1,300 metres long. In order to achieve an annual mining rate of seven million tonnes of ore it is envisaged that production rate stripping will continue at elevated rates for 18 months once production has commenced. However, the pit will require one more push back towards the end stage of mining for it to reach the planned depth of 240 metres.
