The Hera-Nymagee underground gold and copper mine is located in central New South Wales, 100 kilometres south east of Cobar. The Hera gold deposit and the Nymagee copper deposit are being developed by Aurelia Metals Limited.

The Hera-Nymagee Mine is Being Developed in two Stages

The Hera-Nymagee mine is being developed in two stages. The first stage has involved the construction of an underground mine accessing the Hera gold deposit along with a processing plant that will be able to process gold and silver dore bars as well as a zinc-lead concentrate. The second stage will consist of the integration of the Nymagee copper deposit making use of the infrastructure already established for the Hera development. The first stage involving the Hera mine was officially opened by the New South Wales Minister for Resources and Energy on November 27, 2014. Tt is expected to have a life of mine of just over seven years and be capable of producing 50,000 ounces of gold a year.

Hera and Nymagee Projects Purchased by Aurelia Metals in 2009

Aurelia Metals purchased the Hera Project and 95 percent of the adjoining Nymagee Joint Venture in September, 2009, off CBH Resources. Aurelia was then known as YTC Resources. Aurelia Metals is a mineral and development company based in Orange New South Wales, its major shareholders are Singpac Investment Holdings Pty Ltd and Glencore. YTC Resources changed its name to Aurelia Metals Limited with the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) on June 2, 2014.

The Hera deposit is being developed using the longhole open stoping method and cemented rock fill. Sill pillars are placed to divide the mine into stoping areas. The three stage crushing circuit processing plant is able to grind up to 250 micron and the gravity gold circuit is capable of extracting eight percent silver and 60 percent gold. Processing of the gold and silver components is applied using the Merrill Crowe method (the removing of gold by means of a cyanide solution). Base metal extraction will be achieved using bulk sulphide flotation technology.

Hera-Nymagee Mine Developed as a Greenfield Project

Infrastructure at the Hera-Nymagee mining project includes a deisel generator power station and tailings storage. An accommodation village is provided that is able to house up to 80 mine personnel. Other major constructions carried out at the site were the establishment of the Hera decline portal, a sewage treatment plant, water supply and concrete batch plant.

Surface earthwork undertaken at the Hera project was completed by Neill'sEarthmoving of Nyngan in New South Wales. The ore processing plant was constructed under an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract with Gekko Systems of Ballarat in Victoria. Gekko were assisted by AMI with the mine's project plant design and flow sheet development. Pybar Mining Services of Orange in NSW were awarded the mining contract and underground mine development. At peak production Pybus will be expected to mine 350,000 tonnes of ore a year. Pybar were awarded a seven year contract to carry out drilling, blasting, shotcreting, cable bolting, haulage and production work generally. The accommodation village was constructed by Ausco Modular. The Mining Study and the Definitive Feasibility Study was undertaken by Optiro Mining Consultants and the Hera-Nymagee geotechnical study was completed by Coffey Mining.
