The Devil Creek gas plant is located on Mardie Station about 45 kilometres south west of Dampier in north west Western Australia. It is a joint venture owned operation with American based Apache Corporation owning 55 percent and Santos 45 percent. It is Western Australia's third domestic natural gas processing hub and the first new plant of such a nature to be built in the state for nearly 20 years. Apache is the operator of the facility.

The Devil Creek Gas Plant is fed From the Off-shore Reindeer Natural gas Field

The raw gas supply feeding the Devil Creek gas plant comes from the off shore Reindeer gas field that is also operated by Apache Corporation. The Devil Creek complex actually consists of several elements that also includes the Reindeer wellhead platform, the Reindeer raw gas pipeline and the Devil Creek gas export pipeline that links into the main Dampier to Bunbury natrual gas pipeline that takes natural gas to the more populated areas of the state as well as to its industrial centres. The Devil Creek natural gas plant began gas production in December 2011 and all the gas produced is dedicated to the Western Australian domestic gas market.
All the gas processed at the Devil Creek gas plant is drawn from the Reindeer natural gas field located in the North West Shelf, about 80 kilometres north west of Dampier. The gas is brought to the coast by means of an 105 kilometre long off shore and on shore raw gas pipeline. The Devil Creek on shore facility comprises a two train plant that is designed to process up to 200 million standard cubic feet of natural gas a day. It also has a gas supply pipeline as well as a sales gas export pipeline. Its off shore facilities include an automated gas production platform that is unmanned and a gas supply pipeline.

Devil Creek gas Plant Produces Gas Condensate for the Transport Industry

The raw gas received at the Devil Creek gas plant is processed before it is delivered into the Dampier to Bunbury pipeline. A second commercially viable product produced at the plant is gas condensate, a low density mixture of hydrobarbon liquids that results when the temperature of the raw gas is reduced to low levels. Natural gas condensate is sometimes referred to as 'natural gasoline.' The gas condsensate produced at the Devil Creek plant is taken by road tankers to the industrial centre of Kwinana, south of Perth, where it is used as refinery feedstock that goes a long way to maintain the continuity of the supply of light liquid hydrocarbons that remain essential for the Western Australian transport industry. The Devil Creek plant produces up to 80 kilolitres of gas condensate a day, although the plant is designed to handle up to 160 kilolitres a day.

The Devil Creek gas plant gives ongoing benefits to Western Australia by making certain the state has an additional and independent gas supply into the Dampier to Bunbury gas pipeline. Natural gas has been a mainstay that has underpinned the strong growth of the Western Australian resource sector as well as its associated industries. The Devil Creek gas plant will meet future demand for natural gas in Western Australia at a time when its environmental friendly, low carbon dioxide features make it the fuel of choice for many consumers.
