The Charlie natural gas development project, located west of the town of Wandoan in Queensland's Surat Basin, is to go ahead as a joint venture operation that includes; QGC Pty Ltd, China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Tokyo Gas. QGC has a 73.75 interest in all the project's relevant natural gas tenements. The development of the project, which will be overseen by Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd, is estimated to be completed by the end of 2017. All major infrastructure is to be built on property owned by QGC.

Construction Work on the Charlie Project is to Start Immediately

The Charlie project has received all the necessary State and Federal government environmental approvals, as well as having been approved by QGC parent company BG Group and all the relevant stakeholders, for an immediate start.

The Charlie Project will Involve the Construction of Between 300 and 400 Wells

The Charlie natural gas project derives its name from the section of property where most of the development will occur. It will involve the construction of a large field compression station and between 300 and 400 wells along with all the necessary facilities and pipelines to feed the natural gas into existing gas and water infrastructure located at Woleebee Creek.

Charlie Natural gas to be Used for Export as Well as Domestic Purposes

The Charlie project works are part of QGC's continual development of its natural gas tenements throughout the Surat Basin. It is part of the larger plan to enable a sustainable natural gas supply to the two-train QCLNG (Queensland Curtis LNG ) liquefaction plant situated near Gladstone, on Curtis Island, as well as the supply of natural gas to the company's domestic customers.

Charlie Construction to Create up to 1,600 Jobs

The QCLNG plant has already exported 62 cargo loads of LNG since production began at the Curtis Island plant at the end of 2014. The development of the Charlie project will assist in securing business opportunities and up to 1,600 construction jobs throughout the two year construction period.

QCG is Part of the Global BG Group of Companies

QGC Pty Ltd, previously known as the Queensland Gas Company, is part of the world wide BG Group which was formed in 1996, it is one of Australia's largest coal bed methane companies engaged in developing the methane reserves in both the Surat and Bowen Basins in Queensland.
