Weipa Sports Fishing is a family owned business offering commercial and tourism fishing in the deep north of Cape York, Queensland. We offer our guests airport pick up and drop off to your accommodation, allowing you to get settled in quicker and ready for your exciting fishing trip.

Regarded as the best sport fishing hotspot by many experts, Weipa on Cape York is where you will find major sport fish species in large numbers. Access to Weipa is simple, located 804km northwest of Cairns. It can be reached by QantasLinks daily flight service departing Cairns or via the Peninsula Development Road. Weipa has a tropical climate throughout the year and has two seasons, the wet season, which is from December to February, and the dry season, which is the remainder of the year. During the day, temperatures range from 28 to 34 degrees and fall by night to 17-21 degrees.

Your experienced guide, Lee Hodgetts has many years experience fishing the far north local rivers and on a multitude of game boats catching fish such as mangrove jack, barrumundi, golden trevalley, Spanish mackerel and giant black marlin. Weipa Sports Fishing has a custom Ocean Blue 6 mtr plate alloy state of the art boat that was built by the team at Ocean Blue, powered by a Honda 150 outboard, coupled with all the latest electronics and technology. The vessel is dry, fast and very stable.

On your fishing experience, we will provide you with as much guidance and tuition as required, with your guideís knowledge and extensive experience you will be fishing with confidence in no time. Weipa Sports Fishing operates from March through to December and we are closed over the wet season. If you wish to target a specific species, please contact us and we will advise the best time to organise your fishing trip.

Most of our clients choose to participate in a fishing charter anywhere from 4-7 days in duration with times generally from 7:00am to 5:00pm, where at the end of your day you are conveniently returned to your accommodation. When fishing reefs and river systems, you will fish from the boat and from land when fishing headlands, beaches and rocky coastlines; therefore suitable footwear is a must.

The fisheries that surround Weipa provide a wide variety of fishing experiences such as live bait fishing, fly and lure fishing. Weipa Sports Fishing supply high quality tackle that must be replaced if damaged or lost, alternatively you are welcome to bring your own tackle that is suitable for the region. We also supply water, juice and soft drinks, morning and afternoon tea, a delicious fresh lunch together with courtesy pick up / drop off to your accommodation and airport. It is advisable to bring the following items on your charter: wet shoes, sun screen, polaroid sunglasses, wide brim hat, long sleeved shirts and lightweight long pants, belt with line cutters, knife and pliers, camera and any personal effects such as medication. Clients are welcome to bring their own alcohol, however a responsible alcohol use is expected, as safety is paramount.
