Dating back over 40 years, SMECís origins date back to the Snowy Mountains Scheme ñ Australiaís largest infrastructure project. The projects object was to divert the rivers from south-east Australia to the west to provide water for irrigation and generate peak load electricity for the states of New South Wales and Victoria.

Since then SMEC has been delivering thousands of civil, transport, water, environment and power projects in more than 80 countries.
