QCOAL Group

Since 1989 QCoal have been involved in exploration in Queensland, predominantly in the Bowen Basin. QCoal has a relationship with North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation and QR National to supply coal to export customers through the Abbot Point coal terminal.

QCoal and JFE Steel have a Joint Venture in the Byerwen Coal Project, located 20km west of Glenden. The project is expected to produce up to 10 million tonnes of hard coking coal per year. It is expected to employ a construction workforce of up to 350 people and 500 people for operations with an expected mine life of 50 years.

Cows Mine, located 13km south of Collinsville

The Drake Coal Project, located 17km south of Collinsville, is still in planning stage but is proposed to be operational by 2014

Jax Coal Project, located 15km south of Collinsville, developed by Jax Coal which is a subsidiary of QCoal. Leighton Contractors have been operating bulk sample at the site and the Queensland Government has approved an environmental management plan and the mining lease is progressing. Once approved the mine will provide 1.8 million tonnes of coal per year, employ around 100 people and have a mine life of around 21 years.
