Phoenix Copper

Phoenix Copper has 18 exploration licences and 3 mineral leases covering a tenement of more than 5500 square kilometers in South Australia. Their main focus is on the exploration and drilling of copper and gold at the Burra and Yorke Peninsula projects.

The 3 leases are located north of Leigh Creek, operations here were put on hold in 2012 due to low copper recovery levels. Studies are still continuing to develop a cost efficient process to recover the copper resource.

Mining and processing operations at Mountain of Light (MoL) remain under care and maintenance. MoL, and two other mining leases at Mt Coffin and Lorna Doone, were acquired by Phoenix in 2010, where 425 tonnes of copper cement were produced in eighteen months. The decision was made to cease mining and production activities pending studies in to the alternative leaching methods, and production therefore came to a halt in 2011.
