In 1903 Peabody won its first coal supply agreement with an electricity company.
By the 1920's after supplying coal throughout WW1, Peabody is the largest Illinois coal producer and is listed on the Chicago Stock Exchange.
Surviving the great depression and WW2 the company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1949 and entered into the Australian market in the 1960's.
From strength to strength over the next four decades, Peabody now spans over 6 continents, operates in nearly 30 countries providing metallurgical and thermal coal.
Peabody Energy is now a global leader in marketing and trading coal to customers such as steel mills in China, generating stations in India and power plants in the United States.
In Australia, Peabody's projects are focused in New South Wales and Queensland. In 2012 Peabody's total sales were 33 million tonnes of coal, primarily to steel producers in Japan, Europe, Taiwan and India.
