Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) is a global operator with businesses across every industry including environmental, infrastructure, energy, mining, machinery and chemicals. With over 200 offices and subsidiaries in over 90 countries, a network of over 500 group companies and a workforce of over 65,000 people.

Mitsubishi Shoji was established in 1954 and listed on both Tokyo and Osaka Stock Exchanges in the same year. Its first large scale investment came in 1968 with the Brunei project (liquefied natural gas). From there the company entered into iron ore and coal projects in Australia and Canada and in 1971 the company made Mitsubishi Corporation its official English name.

In 1989 MC was listed on the London Stock Exchange, the company continued to grow through the 1990's and the millennium with new management policies and focusing on its consolidated operations and increasing value of its assets.

MC has various affiliated companies in Australia including BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), MC Iron and Steel and Diamond Resources just to name a few. One of the largest affiliations is BMA, being Australia's largest coal exporter and the worlds largest supplier of the seaborne coking coal market. BMA was formed in 2001, an equal partnership and have management of 8 different coal mines operating in Queensland, including Goonyella Riverside, Peak Downs and the Hay Point coal export terminal near Mackay.
