Isaac Plains Coal Management

Isaac Palins Coal Joint Venture operates the Isaac Plains open cut coal mine in the Bowen Basin, Qld.

The current mine lease covers an area of around 2940Ha, construction of the first stage was completed in 2006, just 12 months after the grant for the mine lease. First coal export was in October 2006.

The mining method at Isaac Plains consists of strip mining, employing blast cast, dozer push and truck and shovel dragline overburden excavation methods.

The Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) is designed to operate at a feedrate of 500t/h, producing 2.8MT of washed coal for export. All coal is loaded onto vessels at the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal.

Supporting the local and regional communities, Isaac Plains shows support by sponsorships and donations to local schools, community groups, CQ Rescue Helicopter, McGrath Foundation (the breast cancer awareness foundation) and other government bodies. Isaac Plains also employs most of its workforce from Mackay and surrounding areas.

Dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint, Isaac implements energy efficient opportunities where possible. Waste management procedures are in place as well as water management and real time monitoring for the purpose of identifying environmental issues caused by mining such as; air, noise and vibration quality.

Rehabilitation of the environment also started back in 2007 after one year of production. Its undertaken on a progressive level with consultation between environmental, technical and production teams and the landholder to ensure safe, stable and sustainable landform and with the purpose of returning the site back to grazing pasture using tractor and aerial seed sowing methods.
