Griffin Coal

Based in the Collie Basin WA, the company dates back to 1923 as a private syndicate Western Australia Government Railways (WAGR). Changing its name in 1927 to the Griffin Coal Mining Company it was awarded a share in supply of coal to a WA power station in 1960.

Griffin has grown to become a large coal supplier, producing over 3 million tonnes of coal annually.

Moving forward other projects included open cut mining at Chicken Creek, Ewington II in 1996 and development of Ewington 1 in 2006. In 2011 Lanco Infratech, an Indian company, acquired Griffin through its Australian subsidiary Lanco Resources Australia Pty Ltd.
