Downers history dates back over more than a century in both Australia and New Zealand. Downer EDI was formed in 2001 following a merger with Evans Deakin Industries (Clyde Engineering; Walkers Limited; Ralph M Lee); Mineral Technologies acquired by Roche Mining.

Recognised as a leading provider, delivering contract mining and civil earthmoving services to local and international clients such as BHP Billiton, BMA Coal and Fortescue Metals Group.
