Chevron

Chevron dates back to 1952 when the company came to WA through Caltex (then owned by Texaco-later to become Chevron). Projects followed in the 1960's when Chevron joined Woodside and Shell in a joint venture and became Noerth West Shelf Venture, discovering oil on Barrow Island and gas at Dongara in Perth Basin.

Through the 70's the North West Shelf Venture discovered gas at the North Rankin and Angel Fields and later the Goodwyn field.

in 1980 the Gorgon field was discovered in deep water off Barrow Island and in 1984 first gas was delivered from the North West Shelf Venture to Perth via the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline.

In the year 2000 Chevron Australia became the operator of assets managed by West Australian Petroleum Pty Ltd (WAPET). Further gas discoveries were made through the early 2000's including the Wheatstone gas field in the Greater Gorgon Region.

The Wheatstone Project began construction in late 2011 at a cost of $29 billion, its located on the Pilbara coast of WA.The project is expected tp provide around 6500 jobs in peak construction, it includes 2 liquefied natural gas trains with combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and a domestic gas plant.

The Gorgon Project is also one of the largest of its kind in Australia, it includes a 15.5 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas plant on Barrow Island that has the domestic capability of supplying 300 terajoules of gas per day to WA.

As a business today, Chevron is a leading natural gas supplier and liquefied natural gas operator. Chevron owns a 50% interest in Caltex Australia, while the remaining 50% is made up of over 20,000 shareholders , investors and employees.
