Caltex

As an oil importing company, Caltex dates all the way back to 1900. The Caltex history began when the all-Australian oil importer Ampol, was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in the late 1940s. Both Caltex and Ampol opened refineries in the 1950s and 1960s, and the two companies were direct competitors in the service station arena and oil product marketing industry.

Moving forward, Ampol acquired Total while Caltex went on to acquire Golden Fleece. In 1995 merger of Caltex and Ampol helped the company become the largest refiner-marketer in Australia.

Operating independently, with all decisions made by the management and the Board in Australia, Caltex is listed on the ASX and has around 3,500 employees working nation wide.

As Australia's leading oil refiner, combined production at the Caltex Kurnell refinery in Sydney, and Lytton refinery in Brisbane comprises roughly 50 percent petrol, 30 percent diesel and 15 percent jet fuel. The remainder of the production consists of fuel oil, waxes and lubricants, bitumen, sulphur, LPG and other gasses.
