Abigroup

First established in 1961 as Abignano Pty Limited, the company originally provided civil engineering services in NSW. In 1984 Abignano acquired Enacon Limitedís companies followed by Robert Salzer Constructions in 1987. These acquisitions enabled the company to successfully offer building services throughout Victoria, NSW and Queensland.

A management buyout in 1988 saw Abignanoís name changed to Abigroup and NSW based building company Hughes Bros Pty Limited was acquired. Throughout the early 1990s Abigroupís position as a respected, top-tier infrastructure provider was confirmed when the company beat fierce competition to secure the $450 million contract for the M2 Motorway.

Future successes continued, including-

• Sydney SuperDome (now allphones arena)
• Venues for the 2000 Sydney Olympics
• $1.5billion Western Sydney Orbital (now the Westlink M7 Motorway).

In 2004 Abigroup was acquired by Bilfinger Berger SE, one of the worldís largest multi-service construction groups. Bilfinger Bergerís backing provided Abigroup with access to expand its engineering services and branch into covering Water and Rail infrastructure.

In 2011 Abigroup became part of the Lend Lease Group. It is a business unit of Lend Lease's Australian construction business whose capabilities focus on engineering, infrastructure construction, building and services.

Some of Abigroups rail infrastructure projects include-

• Pacific National's coal haulage operation in Nebo, Queensland
• Train Support Facility near the Hunter Valley township of Greta
• Hurstbridge Line Upgrade, a $60.8 million project funded by the Victorian Government.
