Tuesday 10th of January 2017 10:03:58 AM

Western Australia is a step closer to its first uranium mine after the state’s environment Minister Albert Jacob granted approval for a project at Wiluna in the northern Goldfields.

Approval from the Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg is still needed by the owners of the proposed mine, Toro Energy.

The State Government approval is the second win for the fledgling sector in recent weeks after Mr Jacob approved Vimy Resources' Mulga Rock project, 240 kilometres east-north-east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

If they enter production, Wiluna and Mulga Rock are estimated to create 170 and 315 full-time jobs respectively.
