Shares likely to fall for Hunter Hall Global fund

Tuesday 3rd of January 2017 10:42:35 AM

Shares in Hunter Hall Global Value are primed to fall, a warning from veteran fund manager Geoff Wilson, now that the fund has lost its mantle as an ethical fund with the emergence of the owner of one of the country's coal miners with a key role as its manager.

Peter Hall, the chief investment officer of Hunter Hall announced his intentions to resign and then sold 19.9% stake in Hunter Hall to Washington H. Soul Pattinson Co Ltd, an investment company which controls New Hope Corp, one of the country's largest coal miners.

Funds managed by Hunter Hall have been billed as "ethical funds" with the group highlighting its environmental credentials.

"It is very confusing," Mr Wilson said of the sale to Soul Pattinson.

"It was the only listed ethical fund manager. But now it loses that mantle. Therefore, I expect a significant share price fall."
