Mining Contractor fined over diesel leak

Thursday 6th of July 2017 12:47:22 PM

Mining contractor Downer EDI has been stung with a $15,000 fine after a small diesel leak at the Mount Thorley site.

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) attributed the diesel leak at the Hunter site to poor maintenance.

Evidently explosive manufacturers officers, who carried out a routine inspection last month discovered a diesel bund valve buried in soil, allowing a small leak.

Chemical storage conditions on the site were also noted as having the potential for soil contamination, and branded stormwater diversions inadequate.

The company and environmental watchdog will work on a pollution reduction program for the site.
