Mining communities across the Bowen Basin in Queensland have seen a decrease in population in the past five years.
While Moranbah, Dysart and Clermont has only seen a marginal drop, Hail Creek and Glenden dropped significantly, falling by more than half.
Australian Bureau of Statistics confirms a drop in population from 2011 to 2016 in mining communities in the Isaac region.
The number of people living in these regional centres remains close to what it was in 2011, during the mining boom.
Moranbah's 2016 population is 8735, down just 2.6% on 2011.
