The Myuna underground coal mine in New South Wales was purchased by Centennial Coal in 2002 as part of the Powercoal acquisition. It is located in the Newcastle Coalfields near Toronto and produces thermal coal for the domestic power generation market, primarily the Eraring Power Station.

The Myuna Mine Incorporates the Use of a Continuous Miner and Bord and Pillar Technology
The Myuna underground mine operates with the use of a Continuous Miner incorporating the Bord and Pillar technology. In 2011 the mine produced 1.58 million tonnes of coal although it has a capacity to produce two million tonnes a year. The Myuna mine, as at the end of 2011, had 17.2 million tonnes of thermal coal in reserves and this coal, as it is mined, is treated at the on site coal crushing plant before being taken overland via a coal conveyor directly to the Eraring Power Station.

Expansion Approval Extends Myuna Mine Life to 2032
In January 2012 the Myuna Mine received approval to continue mining at the mine until the end of 2032. This approval allows mining to be undertaken outside the former Development Consent Mining Area although it remains inside existing mining leases. The approval came with the following conditions:

- The surface facilities are to be completely rehabilitated within five years of the cessation of mining
- Water management system to be upgraded
- An allowance to continue use of ancillary infrastructure and services for the next 21 years
- The delivery of up to two million tonnes a year of coal to the Eraring Power Station using existing infrastructure
- The bord and pillar mining method to be used in the mining of the Fassifern, Great Northern and Wallarah coal seams

Myuna Mine Supports Local Community Organisations
The Myuna underground coal mine takes considerable pride in fostering strong ties with local Wangi Wangi community groups, some of these include the following organisations:

- The Toronto Learning Community Band
- The Wangi Lions Club Area Beautifying Project
- Wangi Arcadia Netball Club sponsorship
- Sponsors of the Australia Day Regatta
- Wangi RSL Amateur Sailing Club sponsorship
- Dobel Arts and Craft Festival sponsorship

Banpu was formed in 1983 as a coal mining company and expanded into power generation during the 1990's. Banpu's fully owned Australian subsidiary, Centennial Coal, supplies coal mined in Australia to both the export and domestic market. Forty percent of coal mined by the company in NSW goes into power generation.

Centennial Coal was formed in 1989 and listed on the ASX in 1994. Banpu acquired Centennial Coal in September 2010. Centennial Coal employs more than 1,800 people in seven coal mines operating in NSW, one of which is the Myuna underground mine.
