About: The Fletcher-Finucan oil fields are located in the Carnarvon Basin, off the Western Australian coast. The Fletcher-Finucan oil fields that are in 160 metres of sea water are estimated to contain 14 million barrels of recoverable oil reserves. The dual fields produced their first oil in May, 2013, and went on to produce 15,000 barrels a day in their first year.

The Fletcher-Finucan oil field is operated by Santos, which is also the majority shareholder, with 44 percent, other partners in the project include Kufpec Australia with 33.4 percent and JX Nippon Oil and Gas that have a 22.6 percent shareholding.

The Fletcher-Finucan oil Field is Connected to the Mutineer-Exeter FPSO

The Finucane South oil field is located seven kilometres south of the Fletcher oil field and 16 kilometres east of the Mutineer-Exeter's Modec Venture 11 floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) platform. The Fletcher oil field was discovered by Santos in 2007, 17 kilometres east of the FPSO just north of the Dampier sub-basin.

Development of the Fletcher-Finucan oil fields included three undersea production wells connected to the Mutineer-Exeter fields FPSO. The development of the Fletcher-Finucan oil fields have increased the life of the Mutineer-Exeter fields by an extra four years. Development wells for the project were drilled by the Nan Hai 6 Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit with the majority of underwater facilities being completed ahead of schedule. Equipment onboard the Modec Venture 11 were completed in Singapore for shipping to the oil field for installation.

The Modec Venture 11 FPSO used at the Fletcher-Finucan oil fields was converted from a twin hulled Suez-max oil tanker. It has the capacity to process 100,000 barrels per day of oil as well as having storage space for 930,000 barrels per day of processed oil. The FPSO is installed in 156 metres of water.

Fletcher-Finucan Underwater Infrastructure Installed by Rockwater 2DSV

The Fletcher-Finucan oil field underwater development infrastructure includes manifolds, umbilicals and flowlines. The installation of the underwater infrastructure was carried out with the assistance of a DSV (dive support vessel), Rockwater 2, that was operated by Subsea7. The DSV Rockwater 2 also carried out cold commissioning and pre-commissioning work that entailed leak tests, inspection, observation and survey activities.

Fletcher-Finucan Contractors Include Technip and Subsea7

Other contractors involved with the Fletcher-Finucan oil field project included; Malaysian company Technip that was awarded the contract to supply flexible pipe. The scope of the contract involved the engineering, management and supply of 31 kilometres long, nine inch and 10.2 inch flowlines, as well as a 22 kilometre long three inch service line.Subsea7 received the contract to supply flowlines, risers, umbilicals and related infrastructure. Subsea7's contract also involved the engineering, management and installation of equipment required to connect the wells to the already existing Mutineer-Exeter infrastructure.

Santos, which is a major producer of oil and gas in the Carnarvon Basin, completed the Fletcher-Finucan oil field project under budget and ahead of schedule. It also has other oil assets in the area, such as Thevenard Island, Barrow and Stag.

Santos is one of Australia's largest producers of oil and gas, to the domestic market. Its name is an acronym for South Australia Northern Territory Oil Search.Santos' first discovery of gas was in he Cooper Basin in 1963. Today the Cooper Basin contains around 190 gas fields and 115 oil more
