About: The Hexagon flake graphite prospect, known as the McIntosh Graphite Project, is located about 190 kilometres north of the Western Australian, East Kimberley town of Halls Creek. The project is being developed by Hexagon Resources Limited, an Australian based mineral exploration company focused on developing highly crystalline, high purity, flake graphite, to meet the growing demand from new technologies.

McIntosh Graphite Tenements Cover a Area of 330 Square Kilometres

The Mcintosh Graphite Project, that currently exists as a mining tenement package, covers an area of 330 square kilometres and encompasses a resource totalling 7.13 million tonnes grading at 4.73 percent graphite at the Longtom deposit. This resource is expected to be further increased after results are announced following a diamond drilling program which was completed in 2015.

Mcintosh Graphite Project 280 Kilometres South of Wyndham Port

The McIntosh Flake Graphite Project is being developed within a graphitic schist that extends throughout the entire Hexagon tenement area which is well sited near the Great Northern Highway which in itself offers easy access to the nearest port at Wyndham, 280 kilometres to its north.

McIntosh Graphite Project Consists of Many Potential Prospects

The Emperor prospect within the McIntosh Graphite Project has also produced some excellent metallurgical results in as much that bulk testing on a 200 kilogram HQ size core produced 98 percent TC concentrate without having to use any chemical or acid leaching processes, while also delivering a 89 percent recovery. A resource result will be tabled in 2016 after Hexagon successfully targeted surface flake graphite as well as low strip open pit sources.

The Wahoo prospect at the McIntosh Graphite Project has produced over 98 percent TC concentrate after bulk scale metallurgical testing, also without any acid or chemical leaching being undertaken and produced a 92 percent recovery rate. Once again it was found that flake graphite was present on the surface which will facilitate a low strip ratio/ open pit mining operation.

Another deposit at the McIntosh Project, Barracuda, revealed a graphite strike length of more than one kilometre and further resource growth is expected to be gained from the Mako, Mahi and Marlin prospects where there is a total of more than 35 kilometres strike potential for flake graphite. In all, the McIntosh graphite tenements contain in excess of 50 kilometres strike length potential for flake graphite.

Graphene is 200 Times Stronger Than Steel

A single layer of graphite is known as graphene and is expected to be used, in the future, in the manufacturing of aviation materials, mobile phones and computers. It is 200 times stronger than steel, conducts electricity better than copper, is flexible and is as transparent as glass. Scientists believe it will find a use in fuel cells, solar cells, transparent conductive films, touch screens, flexible batteries, flexible electronics, etc.

Hexagon Resources Limited is the new name of Lamboo Resources Limited which was earlier known as Fluorotechnics Limited, a company formed in 2012.

Hexagon Resources Limited

Within Australia, Hexagon has exploration rights for tenements at Halls Creek in the East Kimberley targeting gold and base metal mineralisation and in Valla, northern New South Wales targeting molybdenum/silver mineralisation. Hexagon also has three flake graphite projects in South Korea Geumam,...........read more
