Bis Industries is seeking a Senior WHSE Advisor to provide on-site advisory support across the WHSE and Training functions for our operations in the WA Southwest.
Based from our Welshpool operation and reporting to the Manager – Southwest, you will primarily be responsible for ensuring the ongoing enhancement, development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality management systems throughout the Business Group operations in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
You will also oversee overall operational compliance with training and competence requirements to ensure all personnel are assessed, deemed competent and authorised to operate as per Bis Industries internal and external requirements.
Ultimately, you will guide the sites in achieving their goals without compromising safety, health or the environment and encourage at all times a positive and pro-active approach to WHSE throughout the site(s) operations.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
  • Provide the required technical and leadership support, coaching and mentoring to line management and operational staff to successfully deliver on the agreed business Work, Health, Safety & Environment (WHSE) strategic and tactical goals and targets;
  • Support site management in development of the site specific zero harm plans, including Critical Risk Management;
  • Ensure training need analysis are current, site training records are accurate, available and maintained as per Bis Industries training standards;
  • Support site management in development of the site WHSE Management plan;
  • Facilitate risk assessments, inspections, audits to completion;
  • Sound understanding of reportable events and legislative requirements;
  • Facilitate and lead ICAM investigations of significant nature;
  • Actively identify WHSE initiatives relevant to the business and prepare required proposals for the implementation of programs;
  • Provide visible in field coaching on positive WHSE performance to the site leadership team, operational staff and employees;
  • Promote and reinforce Bis Vision and Values including our Lifesaving Choices and other relevant initiatives as and when required;
  • Contribute to the development of site WHSE Activity Planner(s) and maintain compliance with the schedule;
  • In conjunction with site management, conduct scheduled WHSE workplace inspections in your areas of responsibility to determine suitability of processes, risk management strategies, safety behaviours and corrective actions;
  • Establish and maintain relationship with the relevant client operational, supplier and WHSE personnel;
  • Where required and relevant attend client/supplier reviews, audits and WHSE strategy meetings;
  • Identify opportunities for improvements, instigate WHSE awareness training and awareness interventions;
  • Provide education/training of the WHSE Management system to all employees, supervisors and managers including induction/training required to perform their duties and ensure this training and competency is reviewed regularly;
  • Drive and instigate continuous improvements and enhancements of a Zero Harm culture to enable Bis Industries’ employees to eliminate or otherwise control risks within their work areas;
  • Demonstrate behaviours’ in accordance with the Bis Industries Employee Performance and Behaviour Code.
The successful applicant will possess:
  •  Minimum TAFE Diploma in WHSE (working towards obtaining or obtained Tertiary qualification in WHSE preferred);
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional WHSE experience;
  • Lead investigation competency (ICAM preferred);
  • Cert IV Training and Assessment;
  • Ability to travel to site as required;
  • Ability to work unsupervised, conduct technical research and deliver work to high professional standard;
  • Ability to escalate unresolved issues through appropriate chain of responsibility, both through direct as well as functional reporting lines;
