In 2005, Shell underwent a major structural reorganisation as a long partnership between Royal Dutch and Shell Transport and Trading was dissolved and Shell unified its corporate structure under a single new holding company, Royal Dutch Shell plc. The headquarters of the new company are in the Hague.

Shell operates in over 70 countries, has over 87,000 employees, operates over 30 refineries and chemical plants globally and over 50% of Shells production is natural gas./p>

Shell's products include crude oil, natural gas, bitumen and are developers of wind power to generate electricity. End products are fuels, lubricants, LPG for homes, transport and industrial use and petrochemicals for industrial uses including raw materials for plastics, coatings and detergents.

One of Shell's major projects include the Prelude FLNG, which is the worlds first floating liquified natural gas project. Prelude will be based off the coast of Western Australia and will allow Shell to access offshore gas fields. It is 488m long, 74m wide and, when fully ballasted, will weigh 600,000 tonnes.

Shell's Upstream business in Australia is based in Perth and employs more than 400 staff. Shell is looking to invest around $30 billion in Australia over the next five years, making Shell one of Australia’s largest foreign investors. Currently Shell has a number of major gas projects, mainly off the north-west coast of Australia, between Dampier, WA, and Darwin, NT. These include the North West Shelf project, the Gorgon joint venture, the Wheatstone joint venture, the Sunrise joint venture, the Evans Shoal joint venture and the Browse (Brecknock Calliance Torosa - BCT) joint venture.
