Rio Tinto Aluminium started business with Comalco in the mid 1950's. We brought Comalco in 2000 and the company was re-named Rio Tinto Aluminium in 2006. Alcan INC started in 1902 as a Northern Aluminum company, in the Canadian subsidiary of Pittsburgh Reduction company. They re-named the company to Aluminum company of Canada in 1925 and separated from Alcon in 1928. Rio Tinto Alcan in october 2007 was a leading mining organisation in Rio Tinto acquired Alcan. Alcan intergrated into Rio Tinto existing aluminium business, this resulting in Rio Tinto Alcan. Rio Tinto Alcan Australia main resource is Bauxite.
