Encorporated in 1996, GDF SUEZ Australian Energy is a national leading independent power generator.

Employing more than 750 employees and owner operates gas fired and brown coal fired generating plants in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

GDF SUEZ Hazelwood, a subsidiary of the international power giant GDF SUEZ Energy, the world's largest producer of generated energy, owns the Hazelwood mine. It is located in the Latrobe Valley of Victoria, 150 kilometres east of Melbourne. The power station and brown coal lignite mine covers an area of 3,554 hectares.
